Museum Street, York, England, United Kingdom, YO1 7DR
A free event of local ghost stories from York residents. Accessible, captioned, and family-friendly. Delivered by Skald Theatre Group in collaboration with Hephaestus Theatre.
The event will be held in the Marriott Room at York Explore Library. The Marriott room is located to the left of the main library.
This project was generously funded by a Place and Community grant from the University of York, and is supported by the Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) in the Department of History.
ABOUT:
York is well known for its ghostly tales. Visitors flock to the city to go on one of the famous ghost walks, to seek out haunted pubs, or to buy ghostly souvenirs. However, the people who live in York and its residential neighbourhoods are rarely featured in these stories. But what about the people who live here? What are their experiences of ghosts and hauntings? And what might these tell us about our relationships to the places we live? Or to the people who used to live there?
A co-production between Skald Theatre Group and Hepaestus Theatre, this relaxed, captioned performance brings these stories to life verbatim for the residents of York and supporters of the project to enjoy. Commissioned by Dr Sarah Hall for the Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) at the University of York.
ACCESSIBILITY GUIDANCE:
This is a relaxed performance with captions. There is access throughout the venue, with a very short steep ramp before the first set of entrance doors, and ramped/sloped access inside the entrance. There is slight ramp/slope to access the Marriott Room (the ramp/slope can be avoided by using the doors to the left of the main library entrance), lower volume levels, and attendees are free to move during the event. Accessible toilets are available on the first floor, which can be accessed via a lift. A radar key is required for the accessible toilet.
