In partnership with Fish Lane Arts Precinct, Aboriginal Art Co is excited to offer a pop-up bracelet weaving workshop in the buzzing heart of South Brisbane’s cultural precinct at Town Square, Fish Lane.
This hands-on workshop will be led by Carly Wallace, a Dulguburra Yidinji woman from Yungaburra in Far North Queensland. Carly is a rainforest and freshwater woman who has been living in Brisbane (Meanjin) since 2013 and is the owner of Durban Bagii, her weaving business. The art of weaving has been passed down to her by her elders and is a cultural practice she is deeply passionate about keeping alive by sharing her knowledge and creativity with communities across Australia and beyond.
During the workshop, participants will be invited to create their own hand-woven raffia bracelet to take home as a keepsake. Carly will teach the art of weaving — a relaxing and meditative practice that has been traditionally utilised by First Nations people since time immemorial.
This is a relaxed and welcoming pop-up experience, suitable for all skill levels.
While this is a pop-up event and open to the public, registrations are highly encouraged to assist with participant numbers and materials.
We look forward to seeing you there!
