About this Event

P LEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.

Join this leisurely ramble with a Birmingham Ramblers group leader and enjoy social walking with our friendly members.

It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.

Walk leader: Alan Daw

This is a 4–5-mile circular walk in North Worcestershire which should offer a timely and spectacular display of native bluebells.

Meeting arrangements:

Meet the walk leader outside the main entrance to Tesco supermarket, New Road, Rubery, B45 9JL, at 10.45am.

If using public transport, catch the No. 63 bus from the opposite side of the road to the main entrance of Birmingham New Street station (stop NS3) at 9.56 am. Alight at Beverley Road, Rubery, at 10.43 am. (beside Tesco supermarket).

If arriving by car, there is free unrestricted parking on the supermarket car park (Tesco, New Road, Rubery, B45 9JL).

After a short stroll along Rubery village main street we arrive at a section of the North Worcestershire Path. We follow this tree-lined path steadily uphill until we arrive at Beacon Hill, which offers extensive views towards Birmingham. The views continue to the south as we descend gently downhill before reaching Beacon Farm, where we follow a footpath into Beaconwood and its enchanting bluebells. At the bottom of the wood we reach a picturesque cottage and garden before passing through an iron gate into a secret bluebell wood known as 'The Winsel'. We then follow a quiet winding country lane, passing by a field of Highland cattle before reaching Lizzies Farm and Tea Room, and an opportunity for a timely break and refreshments. We then rejoin the lane uphill until we reach the southern gateway to the Waseley Hills. On the opposite side we pass through a gate and enter Broadmoor Wood, where hopefully the bluebells will be at their magical best. Finally we return through St. Chad's Park back to our starting point for our journey home. Please note:- This is an undulating walk with some steepish sections, and may be a little muddy in places. Walking poles may be helpful, and stout footwear essential.

Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 29 April. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
