Overview
The annual Krembil Research Day event celebrates our achievements in basic and clinical research.
About this Event

The 2025 Krembil Research Day will take place on Thursday, April 24, at the MaRS Discovery District, located at 101 College Street in downtown Toronto. This will be an in-person event.

This annual event celebrates our achievements in basic and clinical research. Krembil Research Day has a strong history, with participation from researchers, clinicians, trainees and Krembil staff.

Trainees (i.e., graduate students. postdoctoral researchers & clinical research fellows) currently under the supervision of a Krembil-appointed Principal Investigator and who spend at least 50% of their time in research are invited to submit an abstract for a poster or an oral presentation. Staff (technicians, research associates & scientific associates) are also eligible to submit a poster abstract, if the allotment of poster boards are available. Priority for poster boards will be given to trainees. Principal Investigators, undergraduate students and summer students are not eligible to submit an abstract.

Due to space limitations, only one abstract per registrant can be submitted.

**NEW: A Functional Cost Centre (FCC) will be required at the time of registration. There is no cost to attend Research Day. If you are not able to attend the event after registering, please inform krembil@uhn.ca at least 48 hours in advance. Individuals who register but do not attend and have not informed krembil@uhn.ca, will have the cost of food (and posterboard if registered as a poster presenter) charged to the FCC on file.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Oral and Poster Abstract Submission Deadline: Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. (no late submissions will be accepted).

General Registration Closes: Friday, April 11, 2025 at 4:00 pm.

There may be a capacity limit for in-person attendees at the MaRS Discovery District. Attendees must register to attend. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for attendees who are registered to be on-site at the event on Thursday, April 24.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Poster and oral abstract submissions are due via e-mail to krembil@uhn.ca by Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Only one abstract per registrant can be submitted. Late submissions will not be accepted.

PRESENTER ELIGIBILITY

  • Trainees (i.e., graduate students, postdoctoral researchers & clinical research fellows) currently under the supervision of a Krembil-appointed Principal Investigator and who spend at least 50% of their time conducting research are invited to submit an abstract for a poster or a 10-minute oral presentation.
  • Only trainees submitting first-authored abstracts will be considered for an oral presentation and judged for their oral/poster presentation.
  • To ensure diversity in talks, no more than 1 oral presentation per lab will be selected, based on the ranking of the accompanying abstract.
  • Staff (technicians, research associates & scientific associates) are also eligible to submit an abstract for a poster if space permits; however, priority for poster spaces will be given to trainees.
  • Principal Investigators, undergraduate students and summer students are not eligible to submit an abstract.
  • Oral presenters who presented an oral last year (2024) are not eligible to submit an oral abstract this year (2025).

Prizes will be awarded for the top poster and oral presentations per category based on evaluation by a panel of judges.

OTHER AWARDS:

  • "People's Choice Award": The audience will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite oral presentation.
  • Abstract submitters will have a chance to connect with the Commercialization@UHN team if they believe their work has commercialization potential.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Abstract: Your abstract must not exceed 2000 characters including spaces (approximately 300 words). Only one first-authored abstract per registrant may be submitted. You must be the first and presenting author in order to be judged in the oral or poster competition.
  • Abstract Format: Abstracts MUST be in a standardized format with the following subheadings: Hypothesis, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
  • Abstract Authors: Please type in all names using the first and middle initials followed by the author's last name. A comma should separate author names and the final name should be followed by a period. (For example: SR Wilson, MK O'Reilly, JP Leduc, and BA Bell.)
  • Affiliations: Please type in all affiliations including your Krembil affiliation. A semi-colon should separate each affiliation and the final affiliation should be followed by a period. (For example: Division of Experimental & Translational Neuroscience, Krembil Brain Institute; Department of Physiology, University of Toronto.)
  • Abstracts that do not adhere to the standard format will be returned to be reformatted.

Note: if the same abstract is submitted more than once, the last submission will be considered the final submission, and it will be used in any published materials and for judging purposes. Please note that abstract submission and event registration are separate processes and must be done concurrently.
